A Day Of Rest?

I've been working on my new kitchen every day. With years of grease to remove, I'm sore from all of the scrubbing.

I cannot praise my steam cleaner enough. It cleaned all of the walls and made a crusty old sandwich station shine.

I planned to take today off, but I'm sitting here thinking about what I can get done this afternoon. There is still so much to do.

I have to make a trip to CNY on Friday, but I plan to start serving over the weekend. A few days to work out the kinks before I start publicizing my dishes.

I Have A Lot Of Cleaning Ahead Of Me

I took a "before" picture so I could compare it with the requisite "after" picture.

I need a nap before I get in there later today.

Prologue Or Epilogue?

While things have not been developing rapidly lately, there are some changes coming into my life.

Barring a last minute legal snag, I'm going to open my own restaurant. More specifically, I'm actually leasing the food service portion of an existing business.

This gives me a fully equipped kitchen with an existing clientele and very little capital outlay for assets, other overhead or labor. In other words, the chance to open my own eatery for a FRACTION of what a brand new establishment would cost in both time and money.

I've always had a "work for yourself" temperament. While I think I "play well with others", I never found a good career as an employee for someone else. Most jobs lacked advancement path or benefits necessary to stay long term.

I have had moderate success as a professional ebayer and dealing in daily fantasy sports. (While I certainly haven't gotten rich, I consider all of the profitable years to be a success.)

I've also found self-employment to contain only a fraction of the stress my other jobs dealt to me.

So making the assumption that my deal is closed this weekend, I'll start getting the kitchen up to speed and hopefully will start serving within a month.

This new commitment is going to hog all of my time. It will probably make playing daily fantasy sports an impossible task this summer.

So this could be the end of my fantasy "career". I'm not officially retiring just yet.

In other news, I have made long-term living arrangements in Buffalo, but my move in date is still up in the air. It looks like I'll have to rent some storage for at least a short period.

Regardless of what transpires, I'll always use this space as my personal blog. It's an important outlet for me.

Although you may hear a lot more about food in the future.

Decisions, Decisions

Baseball has started out pretty decent, with a big winner, a small winner and a medium loser in my first three days. While I have been getting shelled on Fan Duel I have been doing well at FSL. (There has not been enough traffic at Draft Zone for me to play there so far.)

Last night I won only a couple of contests, but fortunately I didn't get the volume of action from the earlier days.

I'll be shuttling back and forth between Buffalo and Prison City over the next few weeks, as I have a lot of logistical issues to resolve regarding my living arrangements and my "stuff". I may have to rent a storage unit until I can sign a lease.

I'm also pursuing a new business opportunity, which may become a reality next week. it is outside of the fantasy sports realm and would certainly take me away from computer geekdom.

So if I change my focus, I might have to give up fantasy gaming. The hours - time of day needed to be competitive online - would conflict (except perhaps Sat./Sun., which would be good for NASCAR and NFL).

I could still keep Daily Fantasy Projections going, it's much easier to keep that up to date around the new schedule.

I'm also considering a new ride, either 2 or 4 wheel. I have narrowed my choices down to a scooter, a motorcycle and a diesel car/truck.

Stay tuned for more non-fantasy news soon.

Bucking A Trend

So I patiently wait for the beginning of fantasy baseball on Monday. Still no contests up on Fan Duel or Draft Zone. I'm hoping I can get a wide variety of action across all of the sites.

However, looking over my past performance, April has been a losing month for me every year. Except for August, it has been the 2nd worst month overall.

I'm not sure I can chalk this up to one specific thing - generally it could be a combination of variance and poor bankroll management. I do remember last year that my starting pitching performed horribly and that gives you no chance to win (unless you are HU with your opponent picking the same SP).

Speaking of losing, I'm on my worst losing streak to date at Fan Duel. I finished March on a seven day downswing, causing me to end up the month in the red.

I was pretty much sunk in March with my NASCAR fail, but I had dug myself out of that hole until this last week.

Usually when I get beat up over a few days at least I get the reward of continued action against my opponents. But it seems I'm getting fewer and fewer matchups each day.

This is the drawback to daily fantasy. If I knew I would get action everyday vs. opponent X, then I would play him at higher stakes. In my experience, a lot of players seem to back out once they get up a few (or back to even).

I guess I can forget about the Buffalo66 challenge. No interest from anyone - and I even offered to take on a TEAM of players.

Well, I'm going to be optimistic and expect a lot of action and decent performance to put up a winning April.
