Opening Day Clusterf*ck

Opening day is upon us - actually, almost over as I write this. It was an interesting day of baseball games.

Side note - I have been crushing hockey. I went 7 days without losing a contest. Any contest. Plus 13 of my last 15 NASCAR contests. March started out as my worst month and finishes as my best month to date. Good variance is waaaaaaaay better than the bad kind.

I'm super hyped to play fantasy baseball. I was a little disappointed the contests were not filling until early Monday morning. I joined as many as I could, until I noticed that a server issue was making things crawl to a standstill. Filling out a single roster was taking over 30 minutes.

As 1pm approached, I knew I was running out of time to fill rosters. I didn't make it. Fortunately, everyone else was having the same problem. I had 3 contests where I was short a player, but I also had 3 contests where I was up a player - basically a wash.

(Note to self - sign up for one contest, fill the roster, then repeat.)

I planned very carefully for the weather, avoiding any games with 50% chance of rain. While this hurt me on the Phillies game, it definitely helped on the Yankees and the Cards. So many rosters had Pujols or Arod/Jeter/Cano.

I will be pissed if there are scoring issues with the postponed games. It states very clearly those players receive zero points.

As the last game finishes up it looks very much like a winning day. Baseball seems to have 4x (or more) the traffic of hockey. This could mean that fantasy will become my primary activity.

I'm still playing poker, but I'm ratcheting down the hands until my learning curve is over in baseball.

UPDATE: Adrian Gonzalez struck out in the 8th... costing me 5 contests (where I was tied). Sigh. Even with that downswing, I'm 23 for 35 on the day with a 19.93% ROI. March finishes with a 19.85% ROI (2nd best), but best $$$ winnings to date.

excellent returns my friend. Are you following Ryan Braun of the Brewers? Think he'll follow up rookie season with numbers like he had?

It's really about who's playing TODAY. So, I'm following everybody. I listen to as many games as possible on XM.

This game is very pitching heavy, you spend most of your $$ there. Then you fill with position players.

Some players are cost prohibitve, so you don't use them much.
